Adobe Fireworks CS5 first look

Just downloaded the trial for Adobe Fireworks CS5. One noticeable change is the splash image.

You may need to login to use other Adobe Services.

And Oh, they have templates for Web, Mobile , Wireframes etc.. cool!

As for the Text .. sorry guys.. still no System Anti Alias. Don’t wait for Adobe to bring it back. Just won’t happened.

Better border, finally!

As for performance , faster but not fast enough compared to CS3.

– there’s not much improvement of Fireworks since Adobe took over. They put up a lot of useless stuff like Flex Skinning , Adobe Air mouse events.. Just how many people uses those features?They are obviously trying to sell other products rather than listening to their customers.

I will be getting emails from Adobe (again) for this one. How about you guys what do you think?

Adobe Fireworks CS5 Preview (April fool’s day post)

I got a chance to look into the new Adobe fireworks and here are the top 5 new features:

1. Custom Brush

The New custom brush from Fireworks Cs5 is the most awaited feature of every fireworks user, you can even add brushed from Illustrator and Photoshop!

2. Photoshop Filters

You can now add stunning effects directly from Fireworks! No need to import from Photoshop to create visually appealing effects.

3. Table Layout

Laying out tables in Fireworks is tiresome, but now Table Layout makes is easier. from the left panel choose Table Layout and you will be presented with the one above.

4. Shear

As we all know Shear tool is very important in having a nice curves in designs but this was not present in any Fireworks version until now.

5. Microsoft Help in Fireworks

The last but not the least, first time ever! Adobe and Microsoft are working hand in hand for this feature. They are also planning to put IE6 inside of Fireworks in the next release!

Slicing with Fireworks : Naming Slices – 2 of 3

Naming slices is a great deal, you also have to take note about naming conventions. Using underscores are my favorite. Also, I use bg_ for all background , icons_ for icons etc.. you can also put them in a separate folder under images if you want.

Here’s how to slice a PNG file. I use this technique for years, hope this will help you out.

Shortcuts used:

ctrl+; -> show/hide guides
ctrl+l -> hide layer
ctrl+g -> group
ctrl and + -> zoom in
ctrl and – -> zoom out
ctrl+1 -> zoom 100%
tab -> hide/show panels

ctrl+shift+g -> ungroup
-> move canvas left/right/top/bottom

Adobe Fireworks CS4 Text Engine Problem!

I have been working with the new Fireworks CS4 on a few designs, but I always got this weird text problem.

I know that Adobe Fireworks has a new text engine but it’s really a mess!

Anyone with the same problem? I have read Adobe’s Forum but I don’t think they have the answer.

1. Weird Text Alignment very annoying when moving or editing the text. This problem shows up 100% when editing or making a new design.

2. You can Select the Text but you cannot edit it. (No, the layer is not lock, I can show/hide them and lock or unlock), Although this only happens not too often.

3. Font Anti-alias are ugly.
